KASAP congratulates Eleanor Klibanoff, winner of a 2021 Visionary Voice Award!
HARRISBURG, PA – The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) announced today 29 recipients of its 2021 Visionary Voice Awards — a diverse group of honorees from across the country who represent a wide range of disciplines and were selected for their outstanding work toward ending sexual harassment, misconduct and abuse.
Kentucky’s recipient of the Visionary Voice Award is Eleanor Klibanoff, a radio reporter with the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, nominated by KASAP. Klibanoff has been an unwavering advocate for survivors of sexual violence in Kentucky. Over the past few years, Eleanor has pushed the concerns of survivors to the forefront of the news cycle, resulting in outrage, reform, and change. In the investigation “Prosecution Declined” and the corresponding podcast, Klibanoff uncovered poor prosecution rates of rape charges stemming from an unusual relationship between police and prosecutors. During the pandemic, she has also highlighted the availability of rape crisis center services and made connections between police sexual abuse and questionable warrant practices. Her commitment to uplifting the stories and challenges of survivors is an important contribution to the work of ending sexual violence.
“We’re honored to present this year’s Visionary Voice Awards to these change makers who are committed to supporting survivors and preventing sexual violence, even during a year of unprecedented challenges and crises,” said NSVRC Executive Director Yolanda Edrington. “This year’s awards also recognize groups and organizations that are bringing individuals together to support survivors and make meaningful change in their communities.”
The Visionary Voice Awards are presented annually by NSVRC, the leading nonprofit in providing information and tools to prevent and respond to sexual violence, in conjunction with Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). SAAM is a national campaign held each April to raise awareness about preventing sexual violence. This year’s SAAM theme, “We Can Build Safe Online Spaces,” highlights how to practice consent online and build respectful online communities.
