KASAP provides technical assistance to member programs and other professionals; advocates for improvements in public policy; fosters coalition building among members and those with common concerns; promotes prevention and public awareness regarding sexual assault and related issues; and maintains resources for sexual assault program staff and the public.

Culturally-Specific Resources

KASAP strives to foster inclusivity and honor the diversity of the survivors we have the privilege of helping. While each survivor is unique and this list is by no means exhaustive, we hope these resource and agency lists will help professionals and survivors alike find information and support.

African American Communities

Organizations:  

  • The Vera Institute works to tackle injustices such as the causes and consequences of mass incarceration, racial disparities, to the unmet needs of the vulnerable and the marginalized, and those harmed by crime and violence. Their mission is to drive change and improve justice systems that ensure fairness, promote safety, and strengthen communities.  

African American Communities

  • API Chaya:

    • API Chaya supports Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander survivors and families impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as human trafficking survivors from all communities.API Chaya engages communities to change societal conditions that enable domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking and all forms of oppression, especially violence against women and the most vulnerable in our society.  

  • Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence:

    • Domestic violence in Asian and Pacific Islander communities is an urgent problem requiring cultural expertise in formulating system-based responses and community-based strategies that encompass the ethnic and demographic diversity of the population. The urgency is compounded by several issues: high prevalence rates, unique dynamics and types of abuse, isolating socio-cultural barriers, and the tenacity of traditional cultural attitudes.  

  • National Organization of Asians and Pacific Islanders Ending Sexual Violence

  • Sakhi for South Asian Women:

    • Sakhi for South Asian Women works to create a safe place with a full rage of culturally-sensitive, language-specific information, support, services, and advocacy for South Asian women. They also actively engage, mobilize, and educate the South Asian community in the movement to end violence against women.   

Faith Communities

  • HEART Women & Girls:

    • Promotes sexual health and sexual violence awareness in Muslim communities through health education, advocacy, research, and training.

  • Unitarian Universalist Association:

    • This association has created a great deal of resources specifically on sexual health and creating safe congregations.

Latinx Communities

Organizations:  

  • La Casita Center

  • Casa de Esperanza

    • Casa de Esperanza is a member of a nationwide network that supports prevention and intervention efforts across the country. They are also involved in research, influencing national public policy, and providing training for organizations work with Latinx communities and other other culturally specific communities.  

  • Multicultural Efforts to end Sexual Assault (MESA)

    • MESA is located in Indiana and works towards ending sexual assault in minority communities, such as migrant workers, Native American communities, LGBTQ communities, and Latinx communities. They work with these communities through leadership building projects and other initiatives which can be found on their website. 

LGBTQ+ Survivors

Organizations:   

  • Fairness Campaign: agency dedicated to equal rights for LGBTQ+ individuals that works through public education, advocacy, political activity, community building, and alliances.

  • Forge: trans advocacy group with great resources for professionals.

  • Louisville Youth Group: a community resource dedicated to providing Louisville-area LGBTQIA+ youth ages 14-20 with a safe and supportive environment.

  • Queer Kentucky 

Native / Indigenous Communities

Organizations:  

  • National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center:    

    • The Mission of NIWRC is to support culturally grounded, grassroots advocacy and to provide national leadership to ending gender-based violence in Indigenous communities through the development of educational materials and programs, direct technical assistance, and the development of local and national policy that builds the capacity of Indigenous communities and strengthens the exercise of tribal sovereignty.  

  • Sisters of Color Ending Sexual Assault:

    • Sisters of Color Ending Sexual Assault believes that sexual assault is a symptom of a larger problem that reinforces an environment which allows violence to exist. They do this through supporting and advocating for organizations by and for communities of color, education on sexual assault for women and communities of color, and advocate to inform public policy and change systems.   

  • Strong Hearts Native Helpline:

    • Strong Hearts is a helpline tailored specifically for Native survivors of domestic violence and their concerned family members. When individuals call, they are connected to knowledgeable advocates who can provide life saving tools and immediate support to enable survivors to find safety and live lives free of abuse.  

  • Mending the Sacred Hoop:

    • This is a Native owned nonprofit that exists to address violence against Natives and works to end it. They provide training to strengthen Tribal and Native community responses to crimes, including advocacy and systems responses, engage men in the work against violence against women, and coordinating community responses that uphold offender accountability.
