Overall charge to Advocacy Specialist: Increase knowledge of intersectionality and anti-oppressive practice among coalition and rape crisis center staff to foster more comprehensive and supportive outreach to underserved populations.
Reports to: Executive Director
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate access to services for incarcerated victims of sexual assault through state level collaboration, training, and technical assistance to regional rape crisis centers and corrections facilities
- Maintain memoranda of understanding with corrections agencies and ensure that provisions continue to be met
- Serve as agency point of contact and representative for Project SAFE initiatives and meetings
- Assist in the development and support of a strategic paradigm shift from an anti-sexual assault framework to a more comprehensive anti-oppression framework through:
- Identification of and collaboration with community leaders and experts in the area of
- anti-oppressive work
- Facilitation of board and member program staff training
- Service as staff to KASAP’s Anti-Oppression Work Group
- Identification of gaps in sexual assault services, both internally and externally, and
- working to eradicate barriers to services for marginalized communities
- Continuous evaluation of project impact
- Manage agency’s online presence:
- Create posts and manage KASAP Facebook account
- Compile newsletter content with input from other staff members
- Assist with upkeep of website, paying special attention to use of inclusive language and
- Updating of Culturally-Specific Resources section
- Resource and training development on sexual assault, trauma, the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), intersectionality, and other pertinent issues as requested
Requirements:
- Commitment to ending sexual violence and a demonstrated ability to incorporate a multi-cultural and anti-oppression perspective into all levels of their work
- 3-5 years experience working on community outreach and engagement of underserved populations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literate
- Ability to professionally represent the Coalition, handle sensitive information, and maintain high levels of confidentiality
- Ability to meet deadlines and respond in a timely manner
- Ability to work independently within a flexible work structure
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel statewide and countrywide with some overnights
Additional Qualifications (preferred):
- Knowledge in the area of sexual violence
- Experience with community collaboration
- Experience with victim services
- Understanding of the Kentucky sexual assault program service delivery system
