KASAP’s powerful documentary, Believe Me: Help and Hope for Sexual Assault Survivors, continues to receive national acclaim for its unflinching honesty, compelling storytelling, and survivor-centered approach to healing and justice.
Produced in partnership with the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs and PriceWeber, the film was created to amplify the voices of survivors and demystify the complex journey of reporting and recovery after sexual violence. It was developed as both an educational tool and a call to action—aimed at fostering understanding, shifting cultural narratives, and supporting survivors and those who walk beside them.
In May 2024, Believe Me earned two Bronze Telly Awards, competing with entries from across the country in the highly competitive 45th Annual Telly Awards. It received recognition in the “Television – Public Interest & Awareness” and “Television – Documentary: Long Form” categories, highlighting its effectiveness in both form and impact.
Just one month later, the film received an Emmy nomination from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), Ohio Valley Chapter – an honor that recognizes excellence in television and digital media production across Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and West Virginia. The nomination was a testament to the strength of the storytelling and the powerful contributions of survivors who bravely shared their experiences on camera.
Additionally, Believe Me earned two honorable mentions at the 2024 PRNEWS Nonprofit Awards. These recognitions acknowledged its exceptional success in public interest storytelling, community impact, and nonprofit communication strategy.
Since its release, Believe Me has been screened in communities across Kentucky and beyond, sparking critical conversations about sexual violence, accountability, and support. It has been used in trainings for advocates, law enforcement, educators, and healthcare professionals, and has resonated deeply with survivors who see their stories reflected in the film.
KASAP remains committed to keeping survivor voices at the center of everything we do. The national recognition for Believe Me reflects not just the quality of the production, but the urgency and importance of its message. We are deeply grateful to every survivor who shared their story, and to every advocate, artist, and partner who made this project possible.
